Markthalle Neun in Berlin is host to a weekly food market - Street Food Thursdays

Street Food Thursdays

Dumplings and Killer Kellerbier

Foodie Berliners like to spend their Thursdays crammed into a nineteenth century iron-framed market hall known as Markethalle Neun. Tibetan momos or Taiwanese jiaozi here, Polish pierogi or Swabian Maultaschen there — at Street Food Thursday you don’t have to discriminate, those doughy delights are all homemade no matter their origins. Beyond dumplings, you’ll find treats for every palate and stomach, from fresh oysters, to a steaming plate of Senegalese peanut stew, to Big Stuff’s famed Smoked BBQ’s pulled pork — a slow-smoked Duroc pork neck in a fresh Sirona bun that draws long lines. To wash it all down we recommend a pint at Heidenspeter, the market’s brewery. Their tap offers craft beers brewed on the spot — think citrusy pale ales, or a killer Kellerbier. Or head to one of the wine stands for a crispy Riesling or a pét nat – allegedly a better match for your oysters from Küstlichkeiten. Be warned: it gets super crowded, and by 6pm, you may have to eat while standing up. The real adventure of your Thursday evening? Locating the bathrooms. They exist, but are limited, difficult to find, and cost €0,50. Long story short: come prepared — bring patience and some cash. But if you love food and want a Berlin experience, it’s worth the effort!
