what's in the magazine?

Our magazines are made up of two main sections – a Berlin city guide and our participants’ chosen topics for feature length stories and interviews.

Mini Travel Guide

You’ll be tasked with picking 6-8 sites around the city, coming up with an original angle and a convincing pitch as to why we should include them in our publications. You’ll then write about, and photograph, your sites for the magazine.

Feature stories

Research a deeper topic of your choice in Berlin and develop a longer piece for the publication. Add colour and texture with interviews.

Taking this Journalism course is one of the best decisions one can make for their career. I had an absolutely fantastic time learning about pitching, finding my angle & writing, inside and outside the classroom.

I really appreciate every team member’s effort and support throughout this journey. Writing a magazine in English was such a challenge for me, but we pulled it off together in the end.

FAQs
English is not my first language, can I manage this programme?

Sure! The language barrier is not the biggest hurdle, as long as you understand your assignments, and your reporting is in shape, we’re here to help fine tune your written pieces.

Previous experience is not needed to take this programme, the goals are obtainable for beginners and those curious to know if journalism is the right path. It does require perseverance and commitment, though.

Yes! We’re not heavy on journalism theory – you’ll be working in a newsroom, filing real reports and interviews to our Editor-in-chief. Your features will be published in a pro magazine with your byline.

During the 2-week programme you’ll be working solely as a reporter, covering and writing about Berlin. During this longer course you can take part in other elements of journalism magazine publishing, such as editing and graphic design. The monthly programme also includes intro to podcasting and optional German language lessons.

The programme tends to attract university journalism students, as well as those taking a work break. But it’s for anyone seriously looking to get into journalism and learn the disciplines.
